Mahalaya is also called Pitri Pakshya or Sola Shraddha. It's a sixteen luner day perion in Hindu Calendar. Mahalaya or Pitru Paksha is considered by Hindus to be inauspicious and given the death rite performed during the ceremony, known as Shraddha or tarpan. Goddess Durga who was married to Lord Siva returns to her parent home during the puja and this is the preparation for the welcome of the diving homecoming. Mahalaya in Bengal is very special due to reason, that the artist paint the eyes of the Goddess durga. This is Called Chakshudan.
